Daniel, The red spots look like a scanner problem to me. I have heard of them-- you're not the only one who has experienced them. I would definitely be concerned. There is only a slight chance that they are defects on the film. I'd look with a high powered loupe if possible. I would encourage you to exchange the scanner if you can. Also, I would like to use your images as examples-- they are very clear.
