Todd, I've never seen this problem. You might try the Canon on another system to see if it's your computer. Possibilities include: K6 compatibility (not likely), Windows 98 "memory leakage" (check it out on Google), inadequate RAM-- you should have more if you scan 48 bit 4000 dpi images. It's a mystery.
