Bob, I don't do many slides, but I've gotten excellent results with ones I've tried. I've just added more material on slide scanning to my page.
I think some people have either defective scanners or incorrect settings, and that's why they downgrade the Canon.
The FS4000US should have slightly better resolution than the 2900 dpi Nikon. There will be a small difference with the 2000P, but not a huge difference. You'll be able to make excellent 13x19 inch prints with either scanner.
