Elaine and I have done some trans-Pacific (and trans-equitorial) testing and found the following.

USING SCSI CARD: Color negative, 4000x4000, 1.41"x.93", Color Matching=On, Clean Dust=Standard.
File size 60,004,763
Time: 5:01

: over 11 minutes

USING SCSI CARD: Color slide, 4000x4000, 1.38"x.89, Color Matching=Off, Clean Dust=Off. File
size 59,096,264
Time: 1:51

USING USB WITH SAME SETTING: about 7 mins

These are not 1:1 comparisons, of course, since different images and different machines were used. (So that you can compare your set-up to mine, I work on a Dell XPS T-600 with 512 MB of memory, two hard drives, and over 100 gb of free disk space.)

But if you own a CanoScan 4000, you can approximate the settings I have given above, time your results, and decide whether SCSI is worth the investment in money and time.
